Morgan County Middle School Dress Code


The purpose of the Dress Code is to encourage students to focus on the learning process without the distractions of unsuitable dress and grooming.  Students shall maintain a clean, orderly appearance at all times.



 1. The responsibility for the personal appearance of the student rests with the parent/guardian and the student.  Personal appearance shall not detract from the educational process.  The following establishes the minimum acceptable standards for student dress to be interpreted by the principal or designee(s).


a. Shoes shall be worn at all times.

b. Apparel shall be adequate in both length and coverage to be considered appropriate for school. Dresses, shorts and/or skirts must be longer than the longest fingertip extended at the student’s side.

c. Pants shall be worn fastened at the waist. Pants with holes and or rips are acceptable IF appropriate areas are covered and rips are not so large that they expose a substantial amount of skin and/or pass the fingertip test described in section (b).

d. Shirts or blouses shall be appropriately fastened in accord with the design of that shirt or blouse.  The length shall extend beyond the waist level allowing the student to pass the touchdown test while showing no exposure. Cold shoulder blouses or shirts with straps wider than one inch are acceptable.

e. Transparent or see-through tops, bare midriff, strapless, low-cut clothing, or tops and outfits that provide minimum coverage or are of a suggestive nature are prohibited; halters, spaghetti straps, completely backless dresses or tops, tube tops, tank tops, muscle shirts, or any clothing which may be distracting are prohibited.

f. Any articles of clothing or jewelry that could likely cause injury are prohibited. Examples being but not limited to chain belts, chain wallets, bracelets with spikes or stubs, etc.;

g. Apparel, emblems, insignias, badges, or symbols that promote the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or any other illegal activity are prohibited.

h. Apparel or symbols which may be gang or cult-related or racially insensitive are prohibited.

i. Clothing with slogans or advertising that is controversial, of an obscene nature, and/or disrupts the educational setting is prohibited.

Any student that does not abide by the school’s dress code will be given a change of clothes or will have to call a parent to bring a change of clothing. Repeated violations of the dress code policy will result in a behavior referral.
